The facts are
few, and the stories unlimited, but....
Noir was a very
evil person (true race unknown) who ruled the kingdom of Dhaman within
the Black Mountains, which circle the northern hemisphere. Within
this kingdom were millions of evil creatures that trained day and
night for when Noir would make another bid for world domination. He
tried once in 9950 S.B. and failed, but he used only a tenth of his
forces and devastated the greatest achievement of the goodly races,
the City. He was once a powerful mortal who lived only to serve the
dark powers. When he was denied advancement by his patron deity he
renounced his faith and sought power elsewhere. He met and
defeated a minor deity who had once visited Kinthur. With that
divine death, Noir rose to Demi-God status and started a campaign
to conquer Kinthur. Since Noir had achieved Ascension* he left behind
a kingdom of foul creatures to fight over his throne. That
kingdom has splintered and its remnants march across the world. It
is not known if Noir’s fractured empire was part of a greater
plan or if his rise to godhood made him careless. In any event,
the fact remains that more monsters are wandering about now than
there were five thousand years ago. This new God, Noir-Morte, the
Black Death might please some evil powers and displease the good
ones, neither can do anything. Many millennia ago the
Gods of Kinthur had agreed to a pact to limit their involvement on
Kinthur. It is a complicated and involved contract that even
the evil Gods would not attempt to break, but Noir is held to no
such restrictions. He continues to be a thorn in the
side of the Gods and an ever-present danger to all good peoples of
the land. He has also become the childhood boogey-man
and scapegoat of bad luck and source of bad omens for many superstitious
or paranoid people (and players).
*Ascension is the process by which a powerful mortal being
slays a god on their home plane and takes their power. Only
the lowest of deities are vulnerable to this, but it is the first
step to stealing the power of the gods. |
