Down falls, such as the lack of optical
sight, and lack of intelligences. Being smart is not required
when you usually eat whatever you come across that is organic.
But do not be fooled by their lack of sight either. The worms,
even freshly hatched, have tremor sense, but do not stand still
and hope that it will pass, for that is a myth, unless you happen
not to have a heart beat, breath, or vibrate at any level. Your
best bet, if you encounter one, is a swift retreat if you cannot
dispatch it in a hurry. But if you young adventures believe that
you can dismiss this worm with ease heed my warning. If the worm
bites you, which is what it is good at, then it has a chance
to hold on, also known to some people as a grapple. While an
enemy, or as the worm sees it food, is grappled it may swallow
it whole, as long as you are smaller than the worm, you go down
with much ease. But do not fret because you are allowed another
grapple check to see if you can resist being swallowed. But don't
hold your breath, unless you fail that is. While being eaten
by the worm you take points of crushing damage (2d8 + 12) and
also the acid from the worm’s
stomachs starts to do its job on you, and all of your equipment Field Notes By:

Lore Masters and Sages agree that
the Magical Beast commonly known as the purple worm, has no evolutional
origin. It is therefore held that the beast originates in the history
of wizardly creations, as such details regarding the creature have
been hazy and unsubstantiated. The nocturnal and subterranean nature
of the beast adds to the difficulties in developing a detailed report
of the creature. Though most have been little more than giant eating
machines with little intelligence, there have been reports of some,
deep underground or close to magical ore deposits that have further
mutated and developed powers and skills previously unknown. To those
adventurers who are unfortunate enough to run into such a beast,
The Sage can only advise a quick retreat, and if such isn't possible
a powerful offensive before the beast begins consuming your entire
group. Prior to this past summer the largest purple worm specimen
discovered had a 5 foot diameter and a length of over 90 feet. Recently,
however, a group of young nobles sought out and destroyed a colossal
sized beast measuring 40 in diameter, over 400 feet long and estimated
to weigh over 400,000 pounds. The Royal Historic Society,
the Arcane Order for the Protection of Magical Beasts, and the Royal
Archeological Society are forming opinions as to the impact this
will have on the ecology of the region. Lucky for the populace
that the beast had made its home in the farthest western reaches
of the country.
